Review: AMPM
Opposite main place mall and Owned by a friend of mine. Decided to give it a try yesterday. Tried their quarter roast chicken and spagetti carbonara. Generous helpings but I have tasted better roasts. Kaemon loved the carbonara, though. Price is ok for the huge portions that they give.

Roast pork with apple sauce
We used to rave about Mr Ho's roast pork at one time and a trip to his outlet in Bangsar was a treat everyone looks forward to. But no more. Cos kids find the one cooked right here in my kitchen beats them all. Hurray!!

Grilled beef steak and potato salad with garlic spinach
After going through lent and 50 days of no rice diet, my youngest son have gotten used to it. So today it's potato salad to replace his rice for carbo and a big chunk of medium done grilled beef. For me, I decided to go just play old spinach

Grilled pork steak
I needed something quick and meaty for my son who has had a hectic day and on a no rice diet. So I decided to do this quick grill of four pieces of pork steaks. The trick is in the marinade. Honey glazed with a tinge of balsamic vinegar and Dijon mustard.

Coq Au Vin
This French chicken casserole has been our favourite ever since we discovered it in France many years ago. Add in some back bacon for that added flavor and enjoy it with baby buns. You can replace that with rice too but I much prefer buns:)

Mussels in garlic butter
If you liked your escargots cooked this way, you will certainly love my concoction of blue lipped mussels in garlic butter and herbs. Throw in a generous amount of chiili flakes for that extra oomph!

An attempt at Roast lamb
My good friend, Rachel recommended me to a great place that sells good lamb cuts. So what followed naturally was an attempt to cook lamb for the first time. It didn't turn out too bad taste wise although the dish didn't look as appealing as I would want it.

Roast Chicken
The week where everyone just yearns for western saw me putting all kinds of meat into the oven. This one was a roast chicken cooked in balsamic vinegar and herbs with garlic mash and a generous serving of garden salad.

Roast pork
Because good roast pork is hard to come by...I decided a diy effort might be worth my while. And yes it was!!! I used shoulder butt to do this and it tasted really good. Moist, juicy and sweet.

Western ham and egg omellette
After a long hiatus (don' ask!), and thanks to my newly acquired IPad which has been become my faithful kitchen companion, I've managed to do a little something. This western ham and egg omelette is surprisingly easy
to do, except that it requires at least 8 hours in the fridge the night before. Turned out nice and the kids loved it.

Review: Full House at Sunway Pyramid
This place, Full House, reminds me of the Garden Cafe and I wonder if both have the same owners because the decor (use of English-style decor and whitewash interiors and white furniture) looks pretty similar. Food-wise too, both offer the same fare. The Black Pepper Chicken Chop is my favourite though. Comes with soup, a generous glass of ice lemon tea and desert consisting of cakes or pastry, for a mere RM18.90. Great deal and great ambience.

Chilli Con Carne
Wendy's came along and the kids are going ga-ga over Jacket Potatoes...So I decided to get my hand at doing Jacket Potatoes with some Chilli Con Carne two days ago. I managed to get the red kidney beans to go with it but didn't have time to find the large-sized potatoes. So had to settle for the normal ones. As you can see, the chilli topping was way too much for the pint-sized potatoes. Still, since the kids are big on sauce, this suits them just fine. The little one didnt enjoy this too much as it was a tad too spicy for his taste. But other than that, everyone thought it was yummy. Another one conquered, another bit of savings!

Review: Logenhaus Restaurant, Taipan

t

Logenhaus located in Taipan has been around for many years now. I remembered this to be our favorite neighborhood restaurant when we feel like a western meal. We have not been there for many years now ever since we moved out of USJ and so for old time's sake decided to patronise the place last week. I tried their signature dish which was their half-grilled chicken while Kaemon tried their mixed grill comprising lamb steak, beef, chicken, bacon and sausages. I didn't think that their signature dish was as good as I once thought (maybe my expectations have gone up over the years) but Kaemon's grill was quite good actually and value for money at RM25. The escargots which they recommended was a total letdown though. Just so-so for me ...go only if you are hard up for western and its the only restaurant in the vicinity.

ABOUT ME
WELCOME
First off, let me qualify that I am a rookie at this. Hardly have time to cook fancy dishes and hardly a great cook, but don't think that should deter me from trying to put a tasty meal on the dinner table. With kids who are adventurous with food and generous with their compliments, I am motivated somewhat to dish out the best I can. Not to the extent of cooking up a storm (not that I can, anyway) but enough to create something to look forward to for the family. My kitchen experiments don't always turn out well and I have my fair share of disasters. (that's when I wish I was fasting rather than feasting). But when it's made with love, food doesn't really need to be great tasting to be appreciated.
So welcome to my humble foodie blog and follow my kitchen trails as I share my spills and thrills in the kitchen. Shown here are proudly some of the dishes I have labored on with some amount of success. Given that stuff I cook don't always turn out the way they should, its nice to be able to capture them when they do. You'll also find comments and reviews of food joints I have visited. Don't know if I can keep it up but hey, a dose of blogging has proven to do wonders to my sometimes mind-bloggling day.P.S For the time being, can only manage a photo blog, no time to post the "how to's" but would be happy to share.
