Teppanyaki
Good sauces and fresh meat is what makes a good teppanyaki. It's a colorful dish. We started with one round of beef teppanyaki, followed by chicken and pork. The last round was a hotchpotch of meats and seafood. The kids enjoyed putting in what they liked in the quantities they like as well as deciding the sauces to go with each. Not to mention the act of actually cooking it right at the table. A fun dinner, this one.

The kitchen trails Japanese
Decided to really multi task and the result was miso soup with wakame, some sushi pieces, a whole salmon in teriyaki sauce eaten with hot piping japanese rice and cold soba noodles. What's missing is my sons favourite cawanmushi dish but that's the max I could manage without turning the kitchen upside down!

Coq Au Vin
This French chicken casserole has been our favourite ever since we discovered it in France many years ago. Add in some back bacon for that added flavor and enjoy it with baby buns. You can replace that with rice too but I much prefer buns:)

Chinese New Year reunion steamboat
This year we decided to have our steam boat together with a grill ala BBQ plaza style. In fact, we bought a new hot pot and griller just for this purpose. This significantly expanded the kind of ingredients that I had to prepare and enhanced the eating experience substantially especially for my youngest son who relishes bacon and pork slices on the grill.

Home made Belgian Waffles
Made with our new waffle maker. The batter recipe that came with the waffle maker was good enough to produce waffles that are soft on the inside and crispy on the outside. The trick is in the corn flour:) . Leave it in for a whole longer if you want the waffles a tad browner.

Penang Lor Bak
This is a lot of work but considering how expensive it is, I guess it is worth the effort. My youngest son absolutely love this and can wallop many at one go. The trick is in making sure you marinate your pork with a good 5spice powder and ensuring you have a good dip to go with it. Some people mix seng kuang with the pork but I'd rather not.

ABOUT ME
WELCOME
First off, let me qualify that I am a rookie at this. Hardly have time to cook fancy dishes and hardly a great cook, but don't think that should deter me from trying to put a tasty meal on the dinner table. With kids who are adventurous with food and generous with their compliments, I am motivated somewhat to dish out the best I can. Not to the extent of cooking up a storm (not that I can, anyway) but enough to create something to look forward to for the family. My kitchen experiments don't always turn out well and I have my fair share of disasters. (that's when I wish I was fasting rather than feasting). But when it's made with love, food doesn't really need to be great tasting to be appreciated.
So welcome to my humble foodie blog and follow my kitchen trails as I share my spills and thrills in the kitchen. Shown here are proudly some of the dishes I have labored on with some amount of success. Given that stuff I cook don't always turn out the way they should, its nice to be able to capture them when they do. You'll also find comments and reviews of food joints I have visited. Don't know if I can keep it up but hey, a dose of blogging has proven to do wonders to my sometimes mind-bloggling day.P.S For the time being, can only manage a photo blog, no time to post the "how to's" but would be happy to share.
